Sea-Fisheries Policy & Management Division
The Sea-Fisheries Policy & Management Division is responsible for the strategic, economic and sustainable development of the seafood sector, as well as the broad regulation of it, within the framework of the Common Fisheries Policy, the Sea-fisheries and Maritime Jurisdiction Act 2006 and the Fisheries (Amendment) Act 2003.

The Division functions are exercised separately from the licensing, monitoring and enforcement of aquaculture activities which, are handled by the Aquaculture & Foreshore Management Division . Both divisions consult and advise each other on matters relating to their respective remits.
Overall Goal
The Division's overall goal is to implement national policies, negotiated within the Common Fisheries Policy, that support a long term sustainable seafood industry for Ireland, and to maximise the long term contribution of the seafood industry to the economies of coastal regions.
Key Functions
The key functions of the Division are:
- To negotiate fisheries policy at EU level that supports a strong seafood sector in Ireland
- Promote development of the seafood sector
- Implement effective management of Ireland's fishing resources
